North Mountain Brewing Company
Posted In:

The North Mountain Brewing Company is a locally owned family operated business, founded by Phoenix-area native Rob Berkner who shares a passion for the Arizona desert culture and the art of craft-beer brewing. Rob and his wife Candy are proud to bring their interpretation of the history and art of a traditional brew-pub.

Our inspiration comes from the public houses of Colonial America and Britannia, mixed with the spirit of the iconic beer halls of Europe. With a modern interpretation, this decidedly American establishment gives beer drinkers a new place to call “Home.” Our decor, motif, theme, and state-of-mind revolve around brewing, the history of brewing, and how the wonderful creation of beer has brought many societies together and helped to create a sense of “community.”

What a great concept! A festive gathering hall where the entire town is welcome to enjoy great tasting beer, food, fun, and the company of its fellow neighbors.
Beer-Centric Food
Our menu centers around Classic Beer Foods of the World such as “Fish & Chips,” “Shepherds Pie,” and another culturally accepted beer cuisine.  The concept of “Beer Food” has a long delicious history, and we keep our menu as Beer-Centric as possible.

What is Beer-Centric?

beer-centric \ ‘bier-‘sen-trick \ adj. 1. about, or originating in, an experience centered on beer 2: the use of beer as an inspirational medium

A beer infused philosophy

Rob has decided to let our chefs take control of their seasonal mood swings by allowing them to be impulsive and creative at the same time. You never know when there might be a smoked sausage special, goulash, or braised beef and potatoes special.

To keep up with our dynamic menu, and other seasonal specials available at North Mountain Brewing Company, you are going to want to visit us regularly.

Why Brew Beer in the Desert?

We are three hours from Reno, three hours from Las Vegas. There’s not much in between except the high desert. After that kind of driving, who isn’t ready for cold craft beer and slow-smoked barbecue, in a clean, friendly atmosphere?

The first business in Tonopah was a brewery and tap house. We see our business as an homage to men and women of vision, courage, and a touch of crazy, who came to Tonopah in search of fortune.

The owners, Fred, and Nancy Cline have deep familial roots in Tonopah. They are excited about being a part of this great community, and to play a role in the ongoing growth of the town. They also own the Mizpah Hotel, and their son Ramsey owns the Mizpah Club Casino.

Virginia City Brewery & Taphouse
Posted In:

Virginia City’s deep, rich history is a perfect setting for this Brewery and opens in the same town that originated brewpubs in the state of Nevada.
The Virginia City Brewery and Taphouse follows a long line of historical brewers in this city. 1860 saw the first brewery in the state, Carson City Brewing Company. After this Brewery opened, it was followed by several local Virginia City Breweries, such as: The Pacific, the Californian, Washington, Bavaria, Virginia City Brewery, The Philadelphia, The Nevada, The Union Brewery, and several more, all during the mid-1860s thru early 1900’s the breweries slowly dissolved, as the mining industry was about played out, and the population dwindled.
The Union Brewery survived into the 1930s until prohibition. That was the last operational brewery in Virginia City during this period. As larger nationwide breweries started taking over many areas, the smaller breweries started to close. Carson City Brewery closed in 1948, and the Reno Brewery closed in 1957. There were no more breweries in the state.
It wasn’t until around 1985, a local Virginia City resident and owner of the Union Brewery Saloon, Rick Hoover, worked with the state to pass a new law to allow Brewpubs. In 1987 the Union Brewery started beer production again, Brewpubs were legalized in 1993, thanks to Mr. Hoover, and the first brewpub in Nevada was in Virginia City at the Union Brewery Saloon, open again.
The Union operated as a brewery until around 1995, where it again went dormant. The Union Brewery and Virginia City became the father and leader for all brewpubs to start in the state of Nevada.
The Virginia City Brewery and Taphouse is the first brewery to operate in this historical town since 1995 and is proud to be operational in the area where the first Brewery/ Brewpubs originated in the state.
Our building was built after the great fire of 1875. It was first a restaurant-bakery in the 1880s and eventually a grocery store in the 1930s-1960s and was a gift shop when we acquired it in 2014. We cleaned up the entire interior and modified the entire inside of the building to accommodate a 15 BBL brewing system, and a Bar. The original brick interior and structure remained, as did the original cooler from the 1930s that we now use to store kegs. We have 4 – 15 BBL fermenters, 1–15 BBL Brite, 1–15 BBL Brewhouse system that runs on steam, in our 1,300 sq. ft. facility.
We look forward to operating a public house that is open, unique and welcoming to all. Please visit us to enjoy fresh locally made cold draft beers.
Thank you
